Jason Brown has been appointed chief risk officer of QBE Insurance Group, replacing George Thwaities who is "considering other roles within QBE".

Mr Brown was most recently the chief risk officer of QBE’s Australian and New Zealand operations and has worked with QBE for a total of 12 years.

Prior to this he was senior manager at Ernst & Young Sydney and London, working with a number of major insurance groups across the UK and Australia.

QBE chief executive John Neal said he looks forward to Mr Brown bringing his skills and expertise to this new role.

“We welcome Jason’s energy and commitment as a new member of our group executive,” said Mr Neal.

Mr Neal also thanked Mr Thwaities for his counsel and expertise during his time as chief risk officer.

“George Thwaities leaves QBE’s risk function in great shape and has been a valued member of our group executive,” he said.

Mr Thwaites is "considering other roles within QBE" following a "brief sabbatical", according to a statement by the firm.
