ANZIIF launches a career initiative to address the skills shortage and war for talent facing the insurance industry.

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has launched a career initiative to address the skills shortage and attraction issues facing the insurance industry.

As part of the scheme, ANZIIF has sent out 100,000 booklets to every high school, business school and university in Australia, to show young people the sexy side of working in insurance.

ANZIIF has also set up a dedicated website to provide a forum for discussion, an overview of the insurance industry, the roles available and career opportunities on offer.

The initiative aims to better educate young people so they discover the wide breadth of opportunities the insurance industry offers, ANZIIF chief executive Joan Fitzpatrick said.

"The war for talent is on the concerned minds of insurance companies the world over - attracting and retaining young talent is vital to the long-term success and development of the industry," she said.

"A lack of understanding insurance itself and the opportunities that our industry offers is the biggest hurdle in attracting new talent."

The Careers in Insurance initiative is sponsored by Steadfast, QBE and CommInsure.
