Global X ETFs parent Mirae Asset has partnered with Ondo Finance to tokenise 10 of its US-listed ETFs with Australian ones tipped to be included at a later date.
Starting with Global X’s US-listed ETFs, which have almost US$100 billion in funds under management, the collaboration will expand to funds listed across Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada and Australia in due course.
Mirae Asset will remain the asset manager of the underlying ETFs, while Ondo will provide the tokenisation infrastructure and distribution layer.
The first ETFs it will apply to are:
Space Innovation ETF (ORBX)
AI & Technology ETF (AIQ)
Robotics & AI ETF (BOTZ)
Silver Miners ETF (SIL)
Blockchain ETF (BKCH)
Defense Tech ETF (SHLD)
Lithium & Battery Tech ETF (LIT)
S&P 500 Covered Call ETF (XYLD)
Digital Content Creators ETF (DTCR)
NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF (QYLD)
President and head of the global business division at Mirae Asset Global Investments, Young Hwan Kim, said tokenisation is one of the key technologies that will reshape the paradigm of the asset management industry.
“Through our collaboration with Ondo Finance, we aim to position our global ETF lineup for the next generation of capital market infrastructure and deliver more efficient investment solutions by leveraging blockchain technology within existing regulatory frameworks,” Kim said.
CEO of Ondo Finance, Ian De Bode, added: “Mirae Asset’s decision to bring its ETFs on-chain through Ondo Global Markets demonstrates that not only retail but also institutional investors are now entering the tokenisation space in earnest.”
Since launching in September 2025, Ondo Global Markets has become the largest tokenized stocks platform globally, with over US$1 billion in total value locked, 260+ tokenized securities, and more than US$20 billion in cumulative trading volume.
According to Citi, the global tokenised asset market is forecast to reach between US$5.5 trillion and US$8 trillion by 2030.
The potential to replace traditional assets with digital tokens could have the “greatest disruptive impact” on ETFs, according to EY.
In a report released earlier this year titled ETF Roadshow Report explored how the global ETF ecosystem could evolve in the year ahead.
One of these ways is via a tokenised ecosystem which it said is beginning to emerge, fuelled by institutional appetite for digital diversification, growing political support and advances in blockchain technology.
Although it was a global report, it specifically identified crypto ETPs in Australia had grown by 69 per cent in 2025.
“The potential benefits of fund tokenisation include fractional ownership, frictionless settlement, and reaching new investors. Tokenisation could provide an alternative to ETF conversion for mutual funds, and is already authorised in markets like the US, Singapore, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Hong Kong,” the report said.
