ANZ has named Emma Gray as the company’s first chief data officer, a new role designed to oversee the company’s use of data.

Prior to her new appointment, Ms Gray served as the chief loyalty and data officer at Woolworths, and has also worked with Bain & Company across Australia, Europe and the US.

“As our chief data officer, Emma will play a crucial role in ANZ’s digital transformation,” said ANZ group executive of digital banking Maile Carnegie.

“Emma will lead the creation of a business intelligence capability for the bank in collaboration with other teams across ANZ to identify the biggest opportunities for us to make better decisions for the bank and our customers.”

Ms Gray will lead the company’s data strategy, which ANZ said will include “how data is defined, gathered, managed and protected”, and commenced her Sydney-based role this month.
