The Financial Services Institute of Australia (Finsia) has named Chris Whitehead as the industry association’s next chief executive.

Mr Whitehead brings 30 years of experience to the role, including a period as chief executive of CUA between 2009 and 2015.

“Finsia has a vital role to play in our industry as it adjusts to changing consumer and regulatory expectations, economic challenges and new technology,” he said, adding that he is “delighted to have a role leading [the association]" at this time.

Finsia president David Gall said Mr Whitehead was an ideal choice to lead the association through the changes.

“Chris is a highly regarded and dynamic industry leader with a strong track record in business transformation, innovation and building strong customer-focused cultures," he said.

“These attributes are crucial as Finsia continues to transform its member offering and improve financial performance."

Mr Whitehead has also been a regional director at Bank of Scotland, and chief executive of retail banking at BankWest.

He will commence in his new role on 26 September 2016.
