MLC Investment Management is close to appointing a new chief investment officer after the departure of Chris Condon in February.
Acting CIO Susan Gosling said a decision would be made in a matter of weeks and confirmed she was in the race for the position.
"Well I am [in contention for the job] and that is being worked on as we speak, and relatively soon a decision will be made," Gosling said.
It was a good time to be looking for a new CIO, as investment managers worldwide had been looking to change jobs, she said.
"I think it is quite a fortuitous time to be looking for a new CIO," she said.
"Not so much in this market, but in the US and Europe there has been much more of a dislocation and there has been quite a lot of movement.
"If it is going to be someone external, then I think it will be someone coming from a different market."
She said combining the role of acting CIO with her permanent role of MLC Investment Management head of capital markets research had been made easier by the return of Ian Hagtharp to the capital market research team.
Hagtharp was head of the capital markets research team from 2001 to 2007.
In 2007, he took a sabbatical year and came back to work with MLC Implemented Consulting.
"He was working with the Implemented Consulting team for a while, but came back full-time into capital markets," Gosling said.
"That was really good timing.
"I still do a lot of strategic overlay work and Ian is taking on a lot of the other work in managing the team."
