Paraplanning roles make comeback

Instos and boutiques recruiting

Recruiters say paraplanning roles have picked up dramatically post January 2010.

Demand for paraplanners has increased significantly, recruiters have reported.

eJobs Recruitment Specialists managing director Trevor Punnett said there was strong demand for senior paraplanners, particularly in central business districts.

"Paraplanners have certainly come back into favour since the global financial crisis (GFC), when they were among the first to see their jobs axed and incumbents saw their salaries fall," Punnett said.

Demand had continued to increase since the start of the year and, as a consequence, salaries had risen but were not quite back to pre-GFC highs, he said.

Punnett added that as salaries for paraplanners had increased it was also an indication that the talent pool was smaller than it was 12 months ago.

Profusion Group director Alison Loader agreed there had definitely been an increase in paraplanner roles since January this year.

"We didn't see a lot of movement throughout the GFC, however with more paraplanners now getting snapped up employers don't have as much talent to choose from as they did before," Loader said.

"We've also noticed that while institutions continue to recruit paraplanners, boutiques are also making a comeback in this space, with more advertising paraplanner roles in the last few months."

Loader said while there had been an increase in paraplanning roles advertised in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, she couldn't comment on other states.
