Aberdeen has expanded its Australian equities team.

Aberdeen Asset Management has appointed Robert Penaloza as a senior investment manager in its Australian equities team.

Penaloza comes from Aberdeen's Singapore office, where he was a senior investment manager in the firm's Asian equities team.

"Rob's appointment to this role is further evidence of Aberdeen's commitment to the Australian business and the Australian equities asset class," Aberdeen Asia Pacific managing director Hugh Young said.

"Rob has extensive experience in Aberdeen's equity investment process, which is consistent in all our offices around the world. This experience, and his Australian background, make him ideally placed to join our Australian equities team," Young said.

Penaloza will start in May and will report to Aberdeen head of Australian equities Mark Daniels, who oversees a team of six investment professionals.

Aberdeen has also announced plans to recruit another graduate to the Australian equities team in the near future.

"These appointments enhance the experience and resourcing of our Australian equities team and will support our aims of growing our domestic equity capability and delivering strong returns for our clients," Aberdeen managing director Australia Brett Jollie said.
