Vanguard Investments Australia has appointed a new managing director.

Vanguard Investments Australia has appointed John James as managing director, effective 1 May.

James has worked in Vanguard's United States operations as an executive since 2008.

He headed the broker-dealer sales and distribution division for the firm's financial adviser services group, and more recently began development of a new global line of business focused on financial advisers and other intermediaries, with an emphasis on exchange-traded funds.

Vanguard Investments Australia's Jeremy Duffield, who has served as acting managing director since November 2009, will resume his role as Vanguard Australia chairman and Vanguard International Planning and Development managing director.
