Watson Wyatt Australia has created a number of new roles in its manager research team, as part of a growth and globalisation strategy.

As part of a global expansion strategy, Watson Wyatt Australia has restructured the management research team within its investment consulting business, adding a number of roles.

The announcement released on Friday was of four global leadership roles and four regional leadership roles, which were effective July 1, 2008. Each reports to Watson Wyatt global head of manager research Craig Baker.

The global research roles cover equity, bond, private markets and hedge fund research. The regions span Australia, Asia, North America and Europe.

"As a global firm it is logical to structure manager research even more along global lines. This is an important stage of our ongoing global evolution, and will result in expanding our reach and enhancing our efficiency," Baker said.

The announcement follows the formation of a global Quantitative Research and Investments Systems group, which was established to drive the quantitative aspects of strategic asset allocation and investment management research.

Head of manager research in Australia Hugh Dougherty and head of manager research in Asia Mark Brugner will work closely to cover the Asia-Pacific region.

Brugner recently joined Watson Wyatt from Innovest in Austria, where he was the head of manager research.

As announced last month, Hugh Dougherty was appointed to head of manager research in Australia, after joining Watson Wyatt in 2007.

Watson Wyatt has over 130 investment consultants involved in manager research, conducting approximately 2,500 formal research meetings a year with investment managers globally.
