MySuper assets up 128 per cent: APRA

Assets in MySuper products have risen 128.2 per cent and now account for a third of all the assets held in APRA-regulated super funds, the prudential regulator has revealed.

The APRA Quarterly Superannuation Performance Statistics indicated there was $378.1 billion in assets in MySuper products, a 128.2 per cent increase from $165.7 billion in September 2013.

The amount of assets in Lifecycle strategies tripled with assets increasing from $34.6 billion in September 2013 to $114 billion in September 2014.

The statistics also showed total assets for APRA-regulated funds with more than four members rose from $1.03 trillion in 2013 to $1.14 trillion in 2014.

Total superannuation assets rose 9.6 per cent during the 12 months up to $1.87 trillion.

The annual industry-wide rate of return for entities with more than four members for the year ending 30 September 2014 was 8.2 per cent, down from 14.5 per cent last year.

According to the statistics outward benefit transfers exceeded inward benefit transfers by $471 million.

Benefit payments and net contribution flows both saw increases in the 2014 September quarter compared with the previous year, rising 10.9 per cent and 9.6 per cent respectively.
