ASIC chairman Greg Medcraft has signed a memorandum of understanding with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The MOU relates to the "cooperation and the exchange of information in the supervision and oversight of regulated entities that operate on a cross-border basis in the United States and in Australia", according to ASIC.

"With respect to cooperation pursuant to this MOU, no domestic secrecy or blocking laws or regulations should prevent an authority from providing assistance to the other authority," said the memorandum.

The MOU also covers the execution of requests for information, on-site visits, permissible uses of information, and confidentiality of information.
