AMP Capital has appointed an institutional director of Europe, following a number of prominent departures from the company’s London global listed real estate team.

Kate Campbell, who has been appointed to the role, will be responsible for raising capital for AMP Capital’s Undertaking for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) platform and its unlisted infrastructure business.

“Kate’s efforts will be focused on fundraising for this new platform and for AMP Capital’s unlisted infrastructure business where we already have a range of well-established equity and debt funds,” said AMP Capital's managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Richard Shields. “She will work with clients such as pension funds, insurers, private banks and multi managers.”

Ms Campbell’s appointment follows the departure of deputy global head of global listed real estate Tom Walker this week, head of European listed real estate Hugo Machin early this month, and portfolio manager Nikita Johal last year.

InvestorDaily reported last week that SQM Research downgraded the AMP Capital Global Property Fund from 4.25 to four stars following concerns the departures were the result of “budget cuts incorporated throughout the broader AMP Capital organisation”.

Zenith Investment Partners had a similar reaction, placing the same fund under review.

Ms Campbell will work alongside Louisa Yeoman, institutional director of the UK, to develop AMP Capital’s European institutional client business.

She joins AMP Capital from JP Morgan where she was executive director of capital introduction in the prime brokerage area.

Mr Shields said he was pleased to announce Mr Campbell’s appointment at an “exciting time for AMP Capital, given the recent launch of our UCITS platform for global listed infrastructure and global listed real estate”.
