Industry Super Australia (ISA) has appointed former Australian Council of Trade Unions and Labor MP Greg Combet as a principal adviser.

In his new role, Mr Combet will be responsible for assisting the ISA with its preparation for the financial systems inquiry (known as 'Son of Wallis').

He will work with the Industry SuperFunds and their stakeholders to provide advice to the ISA board on policy development relating to the inquiry.

The details of the inquiry are expected to be announced by the end of this year by federal treasurer Joe Hockey.

Mr Combet previously served as a cabinet minister in the former Federal government, but resigned following the change in leadership from Julia Gillard to Kevin Rudd.

ISA chair Peter Collins said Mr Combet brings invaluable experience and knowledge of all aspects and functions of Industry SuperFunds.

“He has a clear knowledge of policy development at the highest levels of government,” said Mr Collins.

Prior to being elected to parliament in the 2007 election, Mr Combet was also a secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
