The Gold Coast Marathon was the latest venue for Professional Investment Services (PIS) staff training, although the exercise didn't come off as planned for all participants.
More than 40 PIS staff volunteered to run in various segments during the day from 10km to 42km and while most could feel the strain on their muscles and joints, none fared as poorly as national research manager Darren Howlin.
According to PIS, fitness freak Howlin was also preparing to take part in the Kokoda Challenge walk through the Gold Coast hinterland. That is, before he became a marathon casualty, breaking his ankle 2km into the run.
