ANZ rejigs its board following the retirement of deputy chief Bob Edgar.

ANZ deputy chief executive Bob Edgar's decision to retire after 25 years has resulted in two new appointments to the bank's management board. Graham Hodges will replace Edgar in the role of deputy chief executive, responsible for managing key client relationships and driving the group's operational performance.

Hodges has been the managing director of ANZ National Bank since late 2005 and also holds the post of chief executive to the bank's New Zealand operations.

"Like Bob, Graham is a former economist with extensive experience in corporate banking," ANZ chief executive Mike Smith said.

Jenny Fagg, who replaces Hodges as managing director of ANZ National and chief executive of New Zealand, will join the bank's management board for the first time.

Fagg is currently ANZ National deputy chief executive and managing director of consumer finance for ANZ in Australia.

"Jenny is one of our most talented executives with a strong background in retail banking and in risk management," Smith said.

Both appointments are effective from 1 May following the retirement of Edgar on 20 April.
